Wally McCarthy began his career in the automobile industry in 1949 when he was hired as an accountant-manager by South St. Paul Oldsmobile dealer, Ed Peters. His first dealership, McCarthy Motors in South St. Paul opened in 1953. In 1958 He became a partner in Towns Edge Oldsmobile in Hopkins. He sold his partnership in 1962 and moved to Richfield, MN with his dealership, Wally McCarthy Oldsmobile. Years later his property was taken under the controversial Eminent Domain. This property is now the world headquarters of Best Buy. He then moved his office to his present day at 2325 North Prior Ave. in Roseville.
